The Searching Student Book engages students in an enjoyable and detailed study of Aneesh Chaganty’s 2018 film, Searching. It has been designed to fulfil the requirements of the NSW Stage 6 English Year 11 Standard Module A: Contemporary Possibilities.

In this study, students explore the ways Searching uses the language, form, and features of film in innovative and contemporary ways to communicate complex ideas, issues, and experiences to global audiences. Through immersion in the world of Searching– a story that follows the mysterious disappearance of Margot Kim and her father’s desperate search for her – students will develop their understanding of contemporary ethical issues and their knowledge of how digital texts represent and communicate human experiences. They will also have the opportunity to grapple with the impact of innovative storytelling methods on those implicated in the events depicted and on members of the public who become invested in the story.
